How to Develop Emotional Intelligence with NLP

INTRODUCTION:

For over a decade and a half there has been much talk of Emotional Intelligence (EQ). Since the beginning of this century, there has been a ‘buzz’ about EQ, however, it has been elusive and lacking pragmatic tools and models to help develop this sort after and highly valued human intelligence.

 GEQ

The Problem:

So, the problem as I see it is that many people are educated, have a sense of what emotional intelligence is, yet, not many are developing this line of intelligence with any real traction! The larger problem is the term emotional intelligence itself. It offers insight into itself and even into the component parts that make it up, yet, it does not do an effective job of providing the ‘How’ to gain more emotional intelligence, it lacks connecting the dots between theory and pragmatic capabilities via particular methods and models.

Step 1: Getting Started

Bring in Neuro-Linguistic Programming or NLP.

NLP has been utilized extensively in professional development and personal development; particularly in the domains of executive coaching and life coaching. There have also been many short courses on EQ designed at improving work life balance! However, the dots have not really been connected with just what NLP has to offer to pragmatically develop our emotional intelligence. If you are ready already to use NLP for your own EQ development; click the link below- or READ ON!

Step 2: What You Can Do

On your own, in terms of developing your own EQ, to quote A.H. Almaas; if you are going to develop yourself, yourself, you may as well leave that job to a church mouse! There is not a whole lot we can do for our own personal development without some pragmatic tools models and practices.

As we explore the key areas of EQ, we will map the core components of our NLP Practitioner certification training so that you can see for yourself how aligned each area is with it’s corresponding NLP components:

1. Self-Awareness (EQ) – NLP; Learn how you run your own brain or how it’s running you. Learn how your habits of a life time formulate who you take your self to be. Learn about how and why you place your attention and awareness on certain aspects of reality and not others. Learn the key personal development distinctions that enable you to become aware of why you re-act to life situations and how to respond instead.

2. Self-Motivation (EQ) – NLP; Learn about your ideals and values and how to have them, not be had by them. Learn about what is truly meaningful to you and therefore important, and what to do about it. Identify your true intrinsic motivational strategy and free yourself from being motivated by others expectations.

3. Self-Management (EQ) – NLP; Learn and grow through state management & mastery. Learn the Well Formed Outcome goal setting and conversational alignment model. Learn how to release yourself and others from the past and develop new patterns and potentials for a life of posibility, not one of probability.

4. Interpersonal Skills (EQ) – NLP;  Learn the art and skill of listening and of supporting others. Learn how to gain deep and instant rapport in relationship to other people. Learn to read the spoken, verbal and semantic space of the communication of others to be able to ask deeply significant and transformational questions. Learn to meet people in empathy and beyond empathy, in pre-sensing the moment with an open mind, heart and gut.

CONCLUSION:

Step 3: Wrapping Up

So, there you have it, how to develop your emotional intelligence using NLP. Now it’s up to you. What will you do for yourself to get yours going? Irrelevant of all the models, skills and knowledge in the world, it will still take your initiative and intentionality to take the first step. We would love you to do that with NLP and particularly with one of The Coaching Rooms short course running over x2 four day blocks.

Congratulations! You have made it to the beginning, thank you for reading this far, I hope to see you in The Room!
